Book Overview

I chose the book Forrest Gump by Winston Groom. My theme is ambition, and because I've seen the movie before, I know that Forrest is a very ambitious person. This story is about a man named Forrest Gump who narrates his life through out the book. Forrest Gump has autism who can't seem to say what is truly on his mind. People underestimate Forrest just because of his mental illness, but he's actually an intelligent person. I'm excited to read about Forrest Gump and compare the book from the movie.

Hero

"A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." - Christopher Reeve. This quote, to me, is claiming that anyone who has the drive and ability to over come any difficult thing that comes their way is able to be a hero. Even if you fail at first, a real hero would pick him/herself up again and keep going for whatever it is they're willing to fight for. I 100 percent agree with this quote, anyone who is able to go to the extreme for what they truly want is a hero. People aren't always striving for things, if they see an obstacle in the way of them they'd just stop and turn around to an easier road. When I went to Mexico, my family and I were destined to go skydiving. When we arrived there, one of the parachutes had a rip. We didn't know that at the moment. While we were up in the plane, about to set off into the world, my instructors parachute was the one with the rip. He told me to stay calm and that everything will be okay. I did what he instructed me to do which was pull my parachute string and he latched off of me and the second instructor somehow got a hold of my instructor. I had an obstacle to face, not as big and frightening as my teacher but I did what I needed to do to be a hero, for myself and the ones in danger.

Introductory Paragraph

Salvador Dail once said, "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." This quote means that without ambition you can't fully be the best you can be, ambition for you is like wings for a bird and you wouldn't be able to do the best of your abilities. This quote is true because without ambition, how are you supposed to reach or life goals and dreams if you're not striving for what you want in life. This can clearly be seen in the book Forrest Gump by Winston Groom, Forrest isn't the brightest compared to other people, but with the ambition he has for anything he sets his mind to he can drive his way into success. Intelligence, life goals, and difficult tasks are all things you'd need ambition in.

I am a lot smarter than people make me out to be
I wonder if people will ever realize that
I hear people calling me an idiot
I see people giving me glares
I want to speak my mind
I am a lot smarter than people make me out to be

I pretend like I can't hear them
I feel the wind blowing through my hair as I'm being chased
I touch the big oak tree, I'm supposed to tackle
I worry if someone is going to try to beat me up today
I cry as I cant control the way I talk
I am a lot smarter than people make me out to be

I understand the rude comments they say about me
I say thanks
I dream of a life without bad people
I try to be what others want me to be
I hope I can stand up for myself one day
